Are you confused about the chicken soup origin? It may seem like the soup came from a land far away but it was actually first served in the 1700s in a British hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece.
By that time, the soup was called “naps” and people were given the soup to drink instead of eating their meals. The soup did not gain fame until it was served as a tea as in Northern China. But it wasn’t until after the 19th century that people started making the soup into soup pots.
Chicken Soup Origin Controversy
Many people debate about chicken soup origin but what is clear is that the soup has deep significance for many. Some believe that soup helped people recover from other illnesses. But others say that the soup can cure anything from a cold to cancer. Whatever the case may be, the soup became famous in China and remains a part of Chinese culture.
So if this soup has a lot of history behind it, how can you make it at home? This is easier said than done as many think that there is no way they can do it. Since the cooking times are long and sometimes they even burn the chicken.
First of all, the only way to make this soup is by simmering the chicken in the soup. It’s best to cook the chicken on one side at least when it comes to soup making as it helps in preserving the color of the meat.
Once the soup is ready, you just need to let it cool down completely before you serve it. Just be sure that the soup stays at room temperature and does not mix with the air.
Once the soup is cool, you will need to remove the bones and skin from the chicken. And then rinse it in warm water and place it into a soup pot. Some people might recommend putting it inside of a mesh basket but what is important is that the chicken is free from any foreign items.
Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Make sure that the seasoning is just enough so that the flavor is not overwhelming but enough to give it a little kick. It’s not necessary to use more because the chicken has already been flavored in the soup.
Add two cups of chicken broth and let it simmer on low heat for about half an hour. If you have a pressure cooker, you can keep the flame low and cook the soup for about eight to ten hours. The longer you cook it, the more the flavor will be preserved.
Salt and pepper the chicken after cooking. After draining off the liquid, season it again with salt and pepper and serve it hot.
Do Some Add-Ons
If you want to spice it up more, you can add some chili powder to the chicken broth and chicken. You could also add a few sprigs of coriander and some curry leaves.
Do not be afraid to add a few herbs to the chicken soup. By doing so, you can add more flavor to the chicken and the soup.
