Do you love cheese? Of course, you do, because most of us love cheese. Be it the melted cheese on the top of a pizza, or the mixed and matched flavor of sliced cheese with honey, what’s not to love? However, you may not always have the patience to sit and slice cheese manually. It can be quite a tedious task, cutting cheese into slices to eat. Maybe you’ve come home after a tiring day at work and would like to help yourself to a snack of some cheese and bread. Here’s the problem, though: your hands are too tired from working all day to be able to slice the cheese. Now here’s where cheese slicers come in. Aside from helping you from your laziness or tiredness, cheese slicers are also quite convenient for when you have guests over who look like they’re getting quite fidgety with hunger.

What Are Cheese Slicers?

Cheese slicers are a useful piece of kitchen equipment that the world only came up with fairly recently. These slicers eradicate the use of a cheese knife. Don’t get me wrong here; cheese knives are essential to those who like to relish their cheese in an old-fashioned way. However, those who do not mind stepping away from traditional techniques are the ones that cheese slicers are meant to benefit.

There are two kinds of cheese slicers. The first is a handheld one, also known as the European design of the same. This slicer is such that it follows the concept of a grater, but not quite. It slices the cheese when passed through it into fine slices, similar to the way a grater grates anything that you might rub against it. The second type of cheese slicer is the ones with a base. This type of slicer comes attached to a base of wood or marble or other such strong materials. This slicer uses a wire to slice your cheese.

Things To Consider When Buying A Cheese Slicer

There are a few factors to consider when buying an one, just like there are to consider when purchasing anything else. Thickness is the first one of these. Slicers may or may not have a knob to adjust how thick you’d like to cut your cheese, especially wire slicers. Make sure to get an adjustable slicer if you prefer lots of varieties of cheese thickness. The next thing to consider is consistency – one slice should not be half an inch thicker or thinner than another slice. You may want it that way, but you should make sure that the slicer follows a proper consistency if you don’t.

Safety is yet another factor to look at while buying cheese slicers. Handheld slicers are generally less safe than wire ones with a base. This is because you run the risk of cutting yourself in the process of cutting cheese. Do buy the wired slicer if you think that this may happen to you. The durability of the cheese slicer is also an essential factor and is also a given. Make sure that your slicer comes with a spare wire, in case your original one somehow gets damaged.
